The jetties were built by the Army Corps of Engineers, but the town, which ironically has one of the region’s more enlightened coastal philosophies, is on the hook because it technically owns the structures.

  1. Montauk is an example of what happens to our beaches when harden structures are installed in attempt to protect Private property. Unless these structures are removed, Montauk will have no choice but to continue dreadging and trucking of sand in an attempt to maintain a beach.
